For someone who often made a spectacle, the sort of big television media spectacle was not something he had any desire for. Media tended to sensationalize the wrong things anyway. None the less, his opponent today was too big for it to be any surprise, not only in psychical size, but regional presence as well.

While long had Andy desired this confrontation, he had hoped it would have been more on his terms, and perhaps with higher stakes. Alas, this was the opportunity provided. The flat bright sands of the beach contrasted with the fantastical arena that surrounded the to combatants. Logs lain against one another, woven into a circle with a space across from each other.

In this way, the contestants could enter. Outrageously, the logs were also well oiled, and were sat alight in a burning ring of fire. The flames danced high into the clear skies and amplified the heat that the Galarian hated so much. Surely it had been done on purpose. None the less, he could only stand and wait for the arrival of his opponent, Balder Schwartz .

"You sure you want to do this kid?" The field before Andy became distorted, shrouded in darkness. The light was non-existent, as if the shadows governed within this small area. Suddenly, the reflection of multiple crystals could be faintly noticed as a man emerged from the shadows, wearing only his swimming trunks and sandals.[break][break]

The portal of darkness vanished, with its creator hidden within vanishing as well. Warping back to their home or something possibly? Nonetheless, Balder looked around him, noticing the ring of fire, then stared back at his opponent. "Did you do that setup? Feels like you wanted to be extra. Or is it because you wanted to give a message?"[break][break]

Now there was one last thing to wonder about... Where had he seen this kid before? It felt like he had met him previously, but he couldn't tell where that had happened exactly. Maybe the ring of fire was related to that?

His eyes narrowed at the question that called from the darkness before one eye grew slightly larger than the other as an eyebrow rose. What kind of question was that? As if anyone would just back out of a fight here. The effect of Balder's arrival through what looked to him like phantom force was somewhat dampened by his garb.

''Pretty sure they set these up randomly. Fate just picked the right one for us.'' At least he didn't recall telling anyone to do this, and it seemed like an arrangement he would have to have paid for. ''Oh, I've got plenty of messages for you, Schwartz. I'll think they'll get through to you today.'' Anxious as he was, he was still looking forwards to this.

After he had both this guy and FERNANDO SILPH dealt with he couldn't wait to pretend he didn't know who they were like each of them did. Tossing one of the premier balls forwards, a polteageist appeared from the flash, hovering in the air and peaking out of the top of his pot. At the very least, if the hulking man had forgotten who he was, he wouldn't have to worry about exclusively anti-ghost type pokemon.

The man's brow slowly raised at the kid's animosity. In the internet's favorite language: "Y u mad bruh? It's just a game". Then again, the fire and the way he spoke... The dots connected. "The kid from the warzone huh..." The bodyguard's face grew grim. "I'm not here to listen to messages, nor deal with your tantrums, child. But I will give you the fight you signed up for."[break][break]

Balder pulled out an oddly-shaped pokeball, almost reminiscent of a skull, with tribal engravings upon it. The pokeball opened, releasing an Alolan Marowak. The creature proceeded to move to the fire circle and light its bone on fire with the flames. Then, the ritual dancing began as it waited for something to happen.[break][break]

"Let's open the festivities now. Shaman, do your magic." The Marowak started spinning its bone club, throwing in the air a few times. Suddenly, the flames at the tips of the bone turned green before detaching and flying towards the Polteageist, trying to inflict the Burn status to the opponent.[break]

The Alolan marowak was a good pokemon. Liked enough were they that he possessed two of them himself. Far more majestic than the more standard variant, some of their attacks were an impressive samba. Perhaps his own love for dancing is what drew him to the pokemon, besides its ghost typing of course.

''Jeely, don't let him let you look like a sucker.'' With a little clank as the pots top closed down it spun as the fireballs approached. Whizzing around the first fireball, Andy held his breath, wondering how the polteageist could see where it was going. It was a concern that turned out to be providential.

The second orb of greened fire licked at the bottom of the pot causing a slight wince to tug at the corner of his trainer's mouth. None the less, as the pot spun through the flame, the top parted and the spooky sentient liquid inside vomited a mass of darkness that flowed into an orb, firing a shadow ball at the marowak.

The kid was now retaliating in his own way: a shadow ball right out of the teapot. A well hidden move, since no one can see within the pot so preparing such moves is easier. The Marowak started spinning one of his bones before him, to try and act as a shield, but it didn't change the fate of the creature.[break][break]

As the ball collided with the makeshift bone shield, the sphere shattered, releasing the energy contained within upon the pokemon, damaging it greatly. Balder nodded at the usage of the attack. It was a good move and it seemed like the kid had a good understand and mastery of the ghosts.[break][break]

"Get back into it Shaman, we ain't done yet." the Alolan Marowak grunted in agreement as it began to spin both of his bones. A sinister energy began to cover them, tainting them with darkness. After becoming black, the creature threw them in succession, letting them slice the air as they were aiming for the flying ghost teapot.

''Tch!'' The expectation had honestly been for hex, since that was the typical formula following will-o-wisp. Perhaps the older trainer had pivoted to match his own blitzing style of battling. Either way, he couldn't just let his polteageist eat a powerful move, and the Alolan marowak could be quite the powerhouse.

''Darjeeling! Quick!'' The pot's top clinking closed, the haunted dishware spiraled towards the deadly dinosaur, its black ooze rushing out of its spout to form something like a club or a closed fist, driving a sucker punch towards the other pokemon, hopefully before it got its own move off. With any luck, its meager size would make it hard to target and allow such an opening.

Luckily for the opponent, the Sucker Punch did connect. Hard. The Marowak didn't expect this to hit and thus, the shaman creature spun in place. But... He still had strength left into him. Gripping his bone with both hands, he proceeded to resume his Shadow Bone attack, swinging it violently at the teapot.[break][break]

Even if the attack didn't connect, the pokemon was ready to push further, using the momentum to Fling his bone at the teapot. Hopefully this would weaken the creature more, or defeat it. But as it stood, the Marowak was bound to fall anytime. Balder was already thinking of what pokemon to use next, knowing the limits of his creature.

The sound of his teeth gritting in his ear made him worry he might have chipped a tooth and as the bone was flung towards. A dark attack for a dark attack. The impact reminded him of dropping china on the floor, although thankfully the polteageist didn't shatter into a million pieces as an inanimate pot would.

''Jeely?'' The pokemon spun in the air within a daze. It hadn't fainted the dishware, but like any good Galarian, Andy could tell his tea wouldn't last long. ''Giga drain.'' Perhaps he could stretch Darjeeling's presence with this and protect, but the marowak didn't look in much better shape. With so little to leech from the other trainer's pokemon, he wasn't confident in the mileage he could get out of it.

Giga Drain? That was the last drop. It literally drank only one 1hp as the Alolan Marowak collapsed to the ground. Defeated, unconscious. Balder called the creature back, taking a new pokeball right away. "Well now, you definitely are a better fighter then I recall. Let's see how things roll against him now."[break][break]

Two flashes of light, one absorbing the Marowak whilst the other released a Dusknoir. "Shadow Punch". Barely emerged from its spherical restraints was the pokemon going forward, a fist covered in darkness as it tried to smash the teapot into the ground.

A look of confusion crossed the boy's face. Better than he remembered? Mauville was not what he would call a typical encounter. Then he took a moment to realize he was in Hoenn and ultra beasts falling out of the sky wasn't actually all that unusual here. More importantly was the dusknoir. Andy had hoped to squeeze some mileage out of his polteagiest.

So little had been taken from the man's marowak however that the shadowpunch easily fainted the teapot. It collapsed against the ground with a clank before beaming back into his pokeball. Switching the pokeballs in his hand, the boy pursed his lips. He hated to do this... it would be unfair to it. But he wanted to save his best for last.

''Shit... Tossing the ball a shiny duskull appeared. It's red form flapping eerily was it hovered. ''Alright Monocle, I need your A game.'' It's single eye did not look inspired by the situation. ''Blitz him.'' The duskull extended a field of darkness, attempting to use shadow sneak on its fellow ghost cyclops.

The small form of Duskull reminded Balder of his own Dusclops, when he was a small skull too. But now wasn't the time for reminiscing. The little red skull emerged from the shadows, striking at Dusclops and making it reel back a bit. A critical hit? Was it luck or... Hard to say. "Teach it the perks of evolving."[break][break]

The Dusclops fists got covered in a frosty aura. It looked at the Duskull, as if to say "Don't take it personal kid". Seconds later, the bigger ghost unleashed an Ice Punch at the smaller creature. [break]

Admittedly he kinda liked the duskull as it was, especially as he already possessed a dusclops and a dusknoir. Each pokemon had their use, but clearly he had chosen poorly here. As the hulking trainer gave the classic 'don't take it personally' he scowled, although he didn't consider that it could have been meant for Monocle.

The ice punch hit the his duskull full on as it attempted to hover back away from the dusknoir, as the ice spread around the pokemon's form to encapsulate it totally, freezing it in place. There would be nothing it could do afflicted as it was. He shouldn't have picked Monocle for this, but he employed the duskull so little that he wanted to get it some experience.

"Release him from his cold cell, Dusk." After a successful freeze, now came the release of the icy shell. Dusknoir reeled back his other arm, fist beginning to cover in flames. Once it was ready, it launched the attack forward, aiming to destroy and melt the ice, as well as "warm" the creature kept inside.[break]
